LymphoedemaSurgery Centre

The multidisciplinary team

The best lymphoedema care is rarely delivered by one clinician or one procedure.

One team, one plan

Every perspective changes the picture.

Four consultant surgeons work alongside specialist lymphoedema leaders and therapists.

The team brings together expertise in diagnosis, compression, specialist therapy, imaging, supermicrosurgery, microsurgical reconstruction, liposuction, rehabilitation and long-term self-management.

The wider pathway includes Dr Melanie Thomas MBE, Clinical Director of Lymphoedema Network Wales, Dr Cheryl Pike, National Lymphoedema Innovations Specialist, and specialist lymphoedema therapists.

At the MDT

The recommendation is considered together.

The question is not simply whether surgery is technically possible.

  • Confirm or refine the diagnosis and identify further investigations.
  • Assess the balance between fluid swelling, fatty enlargement and fibrosis.
  • Review ICG imaging where appropriate.
  • Consider conservative care, surgery, combined treatment or observation.
  • Coordinate compression and therapy before and after treatment.
  • Recommend against surgery when it is not the most useful option.

Continuity of care

Assessment, surgery and rehabilitation stay connected.

A shared care plan helps the practical details work together.

Relevant members of the team coordinate garment planning, therapy, operative timing, recovery and follow-up rather than treating each part in isolation.

Arrange an assessment

The aim is the right treatment—not simply an operation.

Begin with a specialist assessment and a recommendation shaped by the whole team.
