Water-assisted liposuction

When lymphoedema becomes dominated by excess fatty tissue, liposuction can reduce volume that compression alone cannot remove.

Purpose

Why is liposuction used?

Long-standing lymphoedema can change from predominantly fluid swelling to a firmer enlargement caused by fatty deposition and tissue change. Physiological procedures such as LVA cannot remove this established excess fat.

Lymphoedema liposuction is designed to reduce limb volume and improve shape, mobility, comfort and garment fitting in appropriately selected patients.

Our approach

Why we favour Body-Jet.

The Body-Jet system uses a controlled fan-shaped stream of fluid to gently loosen fat cells while they are removed. In our practice, this supports deliberate, tissue-respectful treatment and controlled contouring.

No liposuction technology eliminates surgical risk or guarantees superior results. The value of the system depends on appropriate patient selection, a specialist operative plan and meticulous technique.

Aftercare

Compression remains central.

Liposuction reduces volume but does not repair the underlying lymphatic failure. Close-fitting compression is therefore central to the result and is usually required continuously at first and long term thereafter.

Specialist therapists help plan garments and aftercare before surgery so the practical programme is understood in advance.

Treatment setting

The setting follows the scale of surgery.

Selected small-volume procedures may be undertaken under local anaesthetic at the Penarth clinic.

Larger-volume or circumferential limb liposuction is performed under general anaesthesia in an established private hospital in South Wales, with appropriate anaesthetic and postoperative support.

A considered recommendation

Assessment includes tissue condition, the distribution of swelling, current compression and your ability to follow the postoperative garment programme.
